In 2nd and 3rd class, we have been learning about explanation writing. While doing this, we looked at the lifecycle of a butterfly.
We got four caterpillars to grow from the Insect Lore website and watched the lifecycle happen for ourselves. We loved watching our caterpillars grow, form chrysalises, and turn into beautiful butterflies. It took 5 weeks for our caterpillars to form into butterflies. When the butterflies had come out of their chrysalis, we gave them sugar water and oranges to eat.
We released our butterflies into the schoolyard. We were very lucky that everyone got a chance to hold or touch a butterfly. Some of the butterflies were still flying around the yard when we went out for our lunch break.
We thoroughly enjoyed watching our caterpillars grow into butterflies and we will miss having them in our classroom.
